LYRICS:

Die A Happy Man

Baby last night was hands down
One of the best nights
That I’ve had no doubt
Between the bottle of wine
And the look in your eyes and the Marvin Gaye
Then we danced in the dark under September stars in the pourin’ rain

And I know that I can’t ever tell you enough
That all I need in this life is your crazy love
If I never get to see the Northern lights
Or if I never get to see the Eiffel Tower at night
Oh if all I got is your hand in my hand
Baby I could die a happy man yeah

Baby and that red dress brings me to my knees
Oh but that black dress makes it hard to breathe
Your saint sure got us the cutest, the hottest masterpiece
It’s too good to be true, nothing better than you
In my wildest dreams

And I know that I can’t ever tell you enough
That all I need in this life is your crazy love
If I never get to see the Northern lights
Or if I never get to see the Eiffel Tower at night
Oh if all I got is your hand in my hand
Baby I could die a happy man yeah

I don’t need no vacation, no fancy destination
Baby you’re my great escape
We could stay at home, listen to the radio
Or dance around the fireplace

And if I never get to build my mansion in Georgia
Or drive a sports car up the coast of California
Well if all I got is your hand in my hand
Baby I could die a happy man

Baby I could die a happy man
Baby I could die a happy man
Don’t you know baby

Moving On and Getting Over John Mayer( Song Structure)

“AABA Song Form / American Popular Song Form / Ballad Form

This is one of the most commonly used forms in both jazz and early to mid-twentieth cetury popular music. The AABA format was song form of choice for Tin Pan Alley songwriters of American popular music, an East Coast USA songwriter scene based in New York City, in the first half of the 20th century. Tin Pan Alley included songwriting greats like Irving Berlin, Harold Arlen, Sammy Cahn, Hoagy Carmichael, Dorothy Fields, Johnny Mercer, George and Ira Gershwin.

The dominance of the AABA format faded out during the 1960s with the rise in popularity of rock ‘n’ roll and the rise of groups like The Beatles. Before The Beatles broke off into other songwriting formats, they heavily utilized the AABA format in many songs.

This song form is used in a number of music genres including pop, jazz and gospel.

Structure Of AABA Song Form

In modern terminology the A section is repeated as the main section of the song and is known as “the verse”.

The A sections are similar in melody but different in lyrical content. The phrases of the A sections often comes to harmonic closure.

This is followed by the bridge (B) which is musically and lyrically different than the A sections. The bridge gives the song contrast before transitioning to the final A section. The B section often provides melodic, harmonic, rhythmic, or contrast in texture. The B section is known as “the Bridge”, “Middle Eight” or “the Release”. It presents the listener with a change in mood in the song, often using contrasting melody, lyrics and chords.

Derived versions of this form (AABABA or AABAA for example) or AABA with the addition of a coda (or “outro”) are not uncommon. Where necessary readers should confirm the meaning of terms in our music glossary.

The standard AABA song form is 32-bars long, with each section of the song being 8 bars long.

Moving On and Getting Over
John Mayer
Produced By John Mayer, Martin Pradler & Chad Franscoviak
Album The Search for Everything – Wave One

[Verse 1]
Moving on and getting over
Are not the same, it seems to me
Cause you’ve been gone, I’m growing older
But I still can’t seem to get you off my mind
And I do believe I feel you all the time

[Verse 2]
Moving on and getting over
Are not the friends they used to be
It’s been so long since I got to hold you
But I still can’t seem to get you off my mind
And I do believe I feel you all the time, all the time

[Bridge]
Tell me I can have the fact you’ve loved me to hold onto
Tell me I can keep the door cracked open, to let light through
For all my running, I can understand
I’m one text away from being back again
But I’m moving on and I’m getting over
I’m-a getting over, I’m getting over
I got to get over

[Verse 3]
Moving on and getting over
It’s been so long; it just goes to show you
That I still can’t seem to get you off my mind (get you off my mind)
And I sure would like to see you one more time
[Outro]
It’s taken me so long just to say “so long”
Maybe it’s all wrong, but I’m moving on
I’m gonna get a new girl
It’s something I can do, girl
To try to get me through, girl
Cause I’m moving on
I’m moving on
And I’m moving on
I’m moving on
And I’m moving on
Consider me as good as gone
Cause I’m moving on
I’m moving on
Moving on, baby
Moving on
Moving on

DIY Songwriting blog tip: Rewriting Lyrics

One Songwriting Blog Tip : Rewriting Lyrics:

I recently was writing a lyric for the title ” Painting ” for the Game . The Game  is a great way to practice your song writing skills and tools as a title is already given to you. That’s right, a  title is given and you write a song that is performed in about a month time.

Everywhere you look it is being told it is the writer that can re-write that will produce the great song. Sure, you need to make adjustments especially if you write the lyric before the melody. However, sometimes you will have a great lyric right out of the box and the rewrite will make it something less than great. I guess what I am trying to give a tip about is that you need to be able to recognize when you have a great lyric so it isn’t changed into a mediocre lyric or a lyric about something else. Something else is another topic, whatever you do keep writing because songs need great lyrics.

DIY Songwriting blog tip: Poetry can be lyrical

It seems there is a lot of fuss about nothing in my opinion when it comes to the differences between a poem and a lyric.

The definition of a poem according to Socrates comes in three different categories which he called  dramatic, epic and lyrical.

There it is, a poem is being defined by the term lyrical. There is such a thing as  a lyrical poem.

Lyric poetry is a formal type of poetry which expresses personal emotions or feelings, typically spoken in the first person.

As for the question of whether poems can function as song lyrics,  there are a few song artist that have taken poems and made them songs. The answer is yes.

Can you name any?

Please leave a comment or sign the guest book and send me your opinions .

Thanks

Terry

  • Look for guitars and smiling faces
  • Hosted by Cathryn Beeks and ListenLocalRadio.com.  Write a song to one of these titles “Low Tide” or “No Service” and perform it live.  It’s a great way to beat writers block and maybe try collaborating with other people in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere.

If looking for lyrics, here is a possibility for ” No Service”

No Shirt  , No Shoes , No Service
May 13, 2016 revised

My hair long hangs in dreadlocks
Wear sandals  without any socks
White T-shirt tied to my belt by a knot
Torn jeans don’t want them to look bought

I am  told I may have a nice face
But don’t want to see it in this place
no shirt , no shoes , no service
Just because I dress like this
It makes people nervous
No shirt , no shoes , no service

My hair  now worn in pigtail braids
Dyed green along with bright red shades
Got fading tattoos,  nipples pierced  fully paid
Shown off by my leather vest not fake  suede

I am told I may have a nice face
But don’t want to see it in this place
no shirt,  no shoes,  no service
Just because I dress like this
It  makes people nervous
No shirt,  no shoes , no service

My hair  now is sun  bleached blond
Show my six pack its  thought I’m strong
Wear a  bathing suit  save lives  from sharks all day long
Yeah so it’s just so totally wrong

I am told I may have a nice face
But don’t want to see it in this place
no shirt,  no shoes,  no service
Just because I dress like this
It  makes people nervous
No shirt ,no shoes,  no service

Out:
Yeah so it’s just so totally wrong
Just  because I dress like this
It  makes people nervous
No shirt, no shoes , no service
