Health Report : What is high cholesterol ?

What is high cholesterol?

Cholesterol is a fat. Perhaps you remember hearing, the body needs nutrients. The major categories of nutrients are  proteins , carbohydrates and fats . Cholesterol is labeled a type of fat .  Cholesterol is a nutrient . Nutrients are needed for survival.

How can too much of a nutrient be a bad thing?  Cholesterol is made in your body. It seems the body makes what it needs with the liver. Cholesterol is needed for vitamin D , bile ( help digest foods) and certain hormones. It is beneficial according to some readings for every cell in the body .  However, too much of a good thing in this case can be bad .  If it stays on the walls of the arteries , it can get hard.  This will narrow the artery making the heart work harder and lead to complications like a stroke and or a  heart attack.  This is what happens when too much cholesterol is circulating in the blood.

Scientist have been able to determine that there are several different types of cholesterol . HDL cholesterol aka good cholesterol . LDL cholesterol aka as bad cholesterol. Triglycerides are different type of fat but also considered bad if large amounts are present. The high cholesterol  can happen because of diet. Certain foods have cholesterol like meat , poultry, and dairy products. . These foods will make the liver produce more cholesterol than is needed.

Similar to the normal values of blood pressure , cholesterol has a value that has been determined to be normal.  The measurement is in total levels and then specifically for the Bad Cholesterol( LDH)

The total cholesterol of 240 mg/dl or more  is considered to be elevated . The values of 200-239 mg/dl is considered borderline.

My value  in December was 258mg/dl . I was told they like a value of 199mg/dl.  It dropped in June to 229mg/dl. I was still high by my doctor’s value but now was only borderline according to national values .

The LDL  optimum values  are less than 100mg/dl The borderline values is considered to 130-159 mg/dl . The high range is 160-189. The very high is 190 or greater. In December my value for the LDH was 197. This would be very high and the reason for the cry of ” horrible” .

June my value was 174mg/dl. It had dropped from the very high range to the high range.

I felt very encouraged ,but my doctor wanted to put me on the Statin medication .

Possible treatments for high blood pressure and  cholesterol will be next. I am sure you are glued to your seats in anticipation. Remember being healthy is very important to being efficient and productive.

High Blood pressure and high cholesterol were indicated by my measurements in my physical.  What do I do now?

Can high Blood pressure be in part because of high cholesterol. These and more will be coming in future blogs.

I being very encouraged decided to try another three months  of natural treatment. Was this a bad idea? Plaque the hardening in the arteries is reversible and with my values going lower it seemed reasonable to me. It may not be reasonable to someone else.

I am not giving advice  merely an accounting, journal so to speak  of what I did with my problems of High Blood pressure and High Cholesterol.

What can be done if you place your efforts into a problem. This can be applied to any area of your life. You must follow through be it with medications, holistic avenues or a daily routine for writing your lyrics.

Do you like how I slipped that in  to get you motivated. Go write and send me your lyric!

Health Report :What is high blood pressure ?

What is blood pressure ? What is high blood pressure?

I am assuming you have no remembrance of your biology classes in high school and or college . Also you are not working in the medical field.

We need oxygen to live . We breath the oxygen into our body. It goes to the lungs . Staying really simple, the oxygen gets into the blood. The heart is the pump that moves the blood so it can reach all parts of the body.  This is mostly done through  vessels .

Oxygen is not the only component of the blood but again simple for general understanding purposes. Like a car is measured in miles per gallon. The heart work is measured in blood pressure. The blood pressure is what moves the blood through the vessels known as arteries . The pressure is highest at the heart and decreases as the blood moves away from the heart. The measure of this pressure, blood pressure, is measured when the heart is working and when it rests.

The working measurement is called systolic and the resting phase called diastolic. The systolic number is written over the diastolic number .

I remember it in that s= superior or top and D= down or lower.  The pulse tells you how many times the heart has worked usually in a minute time frame.

Studies have determined the best numbers for each phase.

The general desire numbers are no greater than 120 systolic and 80 diastolic . This is written 180/90 . Outside of this range consequences are seen such as a possible heart attack if higher . High blood pressure would in most cases be higher than 180 and higher than 80. This again is a general discussion.

My blood pressure was 149/89. This would mean from the above definition that I did have high blood pressure. I measured it several times afterwards and it varied but it was always higher than the 149/ 80.

I was told you should take several and average it. My second reading usually was lower but not by enough to be considered in the general normal range. As I also was told that I had increased cholesterol , I thought it a good idea to get a better idea what this meant .

Health Report : Diagnosis of high blood pressure and high cholesterol

Diagnosis of high blood  pressure and high cholesterol :

In order to  be a successful lyricist or to  do anything successful for that matter, you must be healthy both in mind, body and spirit.

I do have a book review on ” Your Invisible Power ” by Genevieve Behrend . You should check it out , this is the link to the forward .

This blog is going to be  my path to a more healthy body. I have never thought of myself as someone that hadn’t exercised. I had been an athlete in high school lettering on the track team. I continued sports in college  discovering soccer , tennis and swimming.

It turned out that I liked swimming the best and continued  until about ten years ago. I had a shoulder injury.  In my mind I was still pretty active and everyone still told me that I did not seem out of shape. I seem to be on my feet all day at work.  I was tired frequently but then I worked hard.

My health has been pretty good over the years.  I have been rarely  sick other than the common cold.

It came as a total surprise when my doctor said that my cholesterol was ” horrible”!  She meant that it was really high . She wanted to put me on a medication right away. I am not about being on a pill for life thought I better learn more about high blood pressure and high cholesterol and the ways to treat it. My doctor was not happy but then did offer a possible alternative. I was told to seek out a nutritionist and exercise coach.   Was this good advice?

This blog is going to tell you what happened for me as I explored and learned about high blood pressure and cholesterol.  What is high blood pressure and high cholesterol ?

Blue Ain’t Your Color Lyrics
[Verse 1]
I can see you over there, staring at your drink
Watchin’ that ice sink alone tonight
And chances are you’re sittin’ here in this bar
‘Cause he ain’t gonna treat you right
Well, it’s probably not my place, but I’m gonna say it anyway
‘Cause you look like
You haven’t felt the fire, had a little fun
Hadn’t had a smile in a little while, baby

[Chorus]
Blue looks good on the sky
Looks good on that neon buzzin’ on the wall
But darling, it don’t match your eyes
I’m tellin’ you
You don’t need that guy
It’s so black and white
He’s stealin’ your thunder
Baby, blue ain’t your color

[Verse 2]
I’m not tryna to be another just
Pick you up kinda guy
Tryna drink you up
Tryna take you home
But I just don’t understand
How another man can take your sun
And turn it ice cold
Well, I’ve had enough to drink
And it’s making me think that I just might
Tell you if I were a painter I wouldn’t change ya
I’d just paint you bright, baby

[Chorus]
Cause blue looks good on the sky
Looks good on that neon buzzin’ on the wall
But darling, it don’t match your eyes
I’m tellin’ you
You don’t need that guy
It’s so black and white
He’s stealin’ your thunder
Baby, blue ain’t your color

[Bridge]
No, no, no
Mmmm, it ain’t your color baby
Mmm, baby

[Chorus]
Blue looks good on the sky
Looks good on that neon buzzin’ on the wall
But darling, it don’t match your eyes
I’m tellin’ you
You don’t need that guy
It’s so black and white
He’s stealin’ your thunder
Baby, blue ain’t your color
Baby, blue ain’t your color

[Outro]
Mmm, no, no, no baby
Come here baby
Let me light up your world

LYRICS:

Die A Happy Man

Baby last night was hands down
One of the best nights
That I’ve had no doubt
Between the bottle of wine
And the look in your eyes and the Marvin Gaye
Then we danced in the dark under September stars in the pourin’ rain

And I know that I can’t ever tell you enough
That all I need in this life is your crazy love
If I never get to see the Northern lights
Or if I never get to see the Eiffel Tower at night
Oh if all I got is your hand in my hand
Baby I could die a happy man yeah

Baby and that red dress brings me to my knees
Oh but that black dress makes it hard to breathe
Your saint sure got us the cutest, the hottest masterpiece
It’s too good to be true, nothing better than you
In my wildest dreams

And I know that I can’t ever tell you enough
That all I need in this life is your crazy love
If I never get to see the Northern lights
Or if I never get to see the Eiffel Tower at night
Oh if all I got is your hand in my hand
Baby I could die a happy man yeah

I don’t need no vacation, no fancy destination
Baby you’re my great escape
We could stay at home, listen to the radio
Or dance around the fireplace

And if I never get to build my mansion in Georgia
Or drive a sports car up the coast of California
Well if all I got is your hand in my hand
Baby I could die a happy man

Baby I could die a happy man
Baby I could die a happy man
Don’t you know baby
